Memories of BIBA 2017
With a few weeks to go before the team from Barbican Protect exhibits again at the BIBA Conference in Manchester, we take a look back at the success of last year’s event. At BIBA 2017, we had the opportunity to speak with brokers about how we can best continue to support them in challenging that ‘one size fits all’ approach.

Stuart is managing director of Barbican Protect Limited.
Stuart joined Barbican Insurance Group in 2009, most latterly as divisional manager for UK property & casualty. Prior to this, Stuart spent 5 years as client relationships manager at ACE Europe.
Stuart began his career at General Accident in 1984, moving through New Zealand Insurance and then AIG, where he progressed from property underwriter to become property manager. In 1995 Stuart joined Royal & SunAlliance in 1995 as fire underwriting manager progressing to manager for global and risk managed development. In 2001 he moved to AON as new business and development director, with both a client-facing and strategic management role.
Duncan joined Barbican in 2009 and is business development manager for Barbican Protect.
He began his career in 1980 as an underwriter and since 1986 has held a variety of distribution and development roles in both the regional and London Market.
Duncan holds a Masters Degree in Marketing Management from the University of Lancaster.
David joined Barbican in November 2009 and is property and casualty underwriter for Barbican Protect.
Prior to joining Barbican, David was at Lloyd's broker Senator and worked with a broad portfolio of clients from the UK, USA and Australia.
David is ACII accredited and holds a degree in Economics from the University of Essex.
Martin brings over 35 years of insurance experience to the role. Most recently, he was underwriting manager at Mitsui Sumitomo, where he headed up the UK and Ireland property strategic business unit for Syndicate 3210 and was head of Underwriting for the UK and Ireland regional P&C business. Prior to this, he was head of mid-corporate risks at AXA Commercial Lines, working at the firm from 2010 to 2014, and European underwriting director at CNA Europe, between 2007 and 2010. During his extensive career, he has also held senior roles at AIG Europe (UK) Limited and Sun Alliance.
In addition, Martin currently serves as a member of the Property Committee of the Insurance Institute of London. He is also a past president of the London Business Interruption Association and a liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Insurers.
William is head of financial lines at Barbican Protect.
During a 17-year career as an underwriter at Royal & Sun Alliance, William had extensive experience of underwriting across most classes of accident and casualty insurance. As his career developed, he increasingly gained experience and expertise in financial lines products becoming ProFin manager for the North West.
In 2004, he became broking manager for McParland Finn and then in 2007 he co-founded PI Protect Ltd acting as underwriting director. Upon the acquisition of the business in 2012 by Barbican Insurance Group, William became head of underwriting for PI Protect.
