BIBA 2018 Q&A: Sarah Joiner, Marine Underwriter

15 May 2018

Sarah Joiner – Marine Underwriter

Q) The BIBA Conference has really established itself in the industry, attracting greater numbers of attendees each year. What are you most looking forward to about BIBA 2018?

I’m most looking forward to developing relationships with new brokers and continuing to build awareness of Barbican Protect’s marine class.

Q) Competition remains fierce in the market, what is your take on the shape and structure of the market by 2020 and the issues/challenges that it faces?

I believe over capacity in the market will continue to drive rates down. 2020 isn’t that far away, so I don’t expect to see these conditions change significantly before then. Brexit may impact how we conduct business and this could result in some unforeseen market changes. The industry will need to adapt quickly to these changes, as it’s historically shown itself to be more than capable of doing.

Q) In such a crowded event, what are your tips for those attending for the very first time?

BIBA is a marathon and not a sprint - be sure to wear comfortable shoes as you will be doing a lot of walking and a lot of networking!

Q) So, after a hectic BIBA 2018, what is your ideal weekend to relax and recharge?

Spending time with family, a long soak in a hot bath, and putting my feet up after another successful year!
